The Anointed One, Book II: Trilogy of Kings Saga
I liked this volume even better than the first one of the series. Although I am familiar with the stories of Samuel and Saul and David, I learned a great deal just about Hebrew thinking and customs. The power of the book, however, rests in the steady but sure slide of Saul into madness and how that affects not only David, but Saul’s entire family. I’d never thought what it would have been like for Saul’s wife or his daughter Michal, not to mention the angst suffered by Jonathan, Saul’s son and David’s friend. Susan’s careful characterizations make these characters almost take on flesh before our eyes, and we feel their pain. Can’t wait for Saga #3!"
